More refurbishments are coming to Walt Disney World as Tom Sawyer Island and the Liberty Square Riverboat are both scheduled for lengthy refurbishments starting in October 2020.
In this post, we will talk about the refurbishment planned for both Tom Sawyer Island and the Liberty Square Riverboat in Disney’s Magic Kingdom Park, when it might happen and what might be included in the project.
Right now we know that both attractions are closing for refurbishment starting October 5, 2020, and it will last at least until January 2, 2020. That means they will be closed for at least 3 months.
As is the case with most Disney World refurbishments, it’s possible that the closings could get extended as these things rarely go as fast as originally planned.
So far, we don’t know why exactly these two Magic Kingdom attractions are closing, but we know that it’s related to the Disney World 50th Anniversary that is coming up in 2021. Disney is scheduling enhancements to be made for as many of the attractions as possible before the big event, and Tom Sawyers Island and the Riverboat are due for some upgrades.
No details have been given so far, but we will keep you updated as soon as we learn more about these two projects and we’ll let you know when we have solid reopening dates.
