Obi-Wan Kenobi Star Wars Series Announced for Disney+ | Ewan McGregor Reprising the Role

The D23 Expo has been jam-packed with news and announcements, but so far the biggest one is that during the Disney+ presentation Friday, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy announced that Ewan McGregor is coming back for an Obi-Wan Kenobi Star Wars series on the Disney+ streaming service.

This was perhaps the best-known secret going into the Expo, but receiving the confirmation was huge and it was even better being in the audience when Ewan McGregor himself walked out on the stage to make the announcement to adoring fans.

The crowd absolutely erupted when Kennedy called him out on stage and made him say the actual words: “I am coming back to play the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi again.” He then added: “It feels so nice to say,.” It was awesome!

Not much is known yet about the actual series, only that McGregor will once again play the Jedi Master Kenobi and it will deal with him adventures between the time after Revenge of the Sith but before A New Hope.

Kennedy confirmed that the Obi-Wan series will start filming next year in 2020 and they are working hard on preparation and script-work.
