RUMOR: Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular Getting an Update

After 30 years of staying the same, it now looks like the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular in Disney’s Hollywood Studios is getting an update for the 50th Anniversary of Walt Disney World.

This is something that many have been speculating on for some time now, and wdwnt.com is reporting that some scene updates are coming for the show and possibly a total re-working of the show’s direction, including getting rid of the show’s “movie set” structure.

Right now the Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular is setup the same way it was when it opened in 1989, in that they give guests a glimpse into what happens on a working studio set. Since that original direction of the entire Hollywood Studios park is going away, it seems reasonable to think they won’t need to keep that aspect around for the Indiana Jones show either.

I’m happy that the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular is finally getting the attention it needs, 30 years is much too long to leave a show untouched. My only question is what scene changes will they make exactly?

Right now there is the famous boulder scene in the beginning of the show which mirrors the opening scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark. After that they move into the market scene from the same movie where they climb the buildings and do all sorts of acrobatic stunts, even falling from them. Lastly we get the scene from the end of the movie where Indy fights the huge mechanic and the plane blows up.

Since there are already 3 more Indiana Jones films in the vault after Raiders of the Lost Ark, and a 5th Indiana Jones film rumored to be out around 2021(even though it continues to get postponed), it wouldn’t surprise me to see some of the newer stuff in the show to promote the new film.

If they changed out the 2nd and 3rd scenes in the show I wouldn’t be all that upset. They are really good, but the star for me is the opening boulder scene. As long as they keep that in there I’ll be happy.

If they did in fact get rid of the directors, and the whole part explaining to the audience how they make a movie, and only have the actual scenes, they might even be able to squeeze in a 4th scene in stead of only 3 while keeping the same run-time. I’m not sure if the stunt men could handle that as right now they have a short break between scenes, but it’s something to consider.

If this goes forward, then it looks like the previously expected Indiana Jones Land in Hollywood Studios would probably get shelved. And Indiana Jones Land in Disney’s Animal Kingdom though might still be possible if the the higher ups in Disney still feel strongly about the franchise’s future.

The current Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular show is expected to close sometime in 2020, and the new one re-opened in Summer 2021, in-time for the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World.

Again Disney hasn’t commented on this update yet so anything can still happen and they might decide not to do it, but I would definitely be on board if they did.

I would like to see them do like 2 Shows : Raiders Of The Lost Ark and

I'll tell u folk about what they can do about the opening act where Indiana Jones takes the Idol.

They can change it to the Temple Of Doom and get someone to play MolaRam and you have like well.... I dont know how it adds up but I'd like to see them do some acts from the 2nd and 4th movie too.

I have literally grown up with this attraction and have made sure I see it during every trip. As much I love Indy and this attraction as a whole (down to the volunteer in the Hawaiian shirt lol) it pains me to say that as of 2019 it feels out of place. Too many steps have been taken to change the idea of the golden age of Hollywood and the behind the scenes movie magic, to more theme lands. In a nutshell, a park that had its own purpose and ideology, has become a clone of the magic kingdom. The only way to keep Henry Jones Jr. relevant to this “new” park would be to retire the show altogether and open a ride

I love Harrison Ford. And the movie is for sure a classic. I’ve seen it so many times. My favorite scene that I feel should stay is the opening scene with the Boulder too. I’m sure whatever they change will be done in the true Disney fashion.
