That transformation of Epcot is coming and coming quick as today the front of the Universe of Energy building demolition began, making way for the Guardians of the Galaxy Coaster coming to Epcot. Thanks to @Roc2WdW on Twitter we have some great photos of the demolition in progress.
A few weeks back we saw the tiles getting ripped off the front of the building, but this is a whole new level! As you can see in the photos, the whole front of the Universe of Energy Building has been ripped off and you can see straight through to the back of the building:
You can also see the heavy machinery inside the building working hard to tear down and clear everything out:
This old building that was once home to the Universe of Energy attraction, is going to be the queue for the Guardians of the Galaxy attraction now. People were wondering how Disney was going to make the transition and if any of the inside would be remaining, and we officially have our answer now…it’s ALL going!
You can see in the concept art below that the shell of the building is going to be the same, as the Guardians building has the same shape, but the interior is going to be all new:
As we said before, this is where the elaborate queue will start for the Guardians coaster, which will have multiple rooms, with multiple show scenes leading up to the actual attraction. The coaster itself is going to be in a totally separate building just like the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is. You can see a better breakdown of the Guardians of the Galaxy Coaster queue and loading area in the article we wrote a little while back.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Coaster is just one part of a multi-phase project of the Epcot expansion with a New IllumiNations Fireworks Show Replacement coming next Summer, a Ratatouille attraction coming in Spring 2020, a Spaceship Earth renovation most likely in the works, and even more unannounced projects Disney is working on for Epcot.
The still unnamed Guardians of the Galaxy Coaster is expected to open in early 2021.
Your Thoughts:
I want to know what you think about the Universe of Energy pavilion demolition being underway…
- Are you sad to see it go?
- What would you like to see in the queue for the Guardians of the Galaxy Coaster?

My name is Ziggy and I love Disney, everything Disney! I grew up on Disney and it has and continues to be a huge part of my life. I started young when my parents took me to Disney World when I was 18 months old. Little did they know that would be the first of an uncountable number of trips we would take. I have so many amazing memories going to Disney with my family and friends and it has been interwoven into my DNA.

Hope people would do the new normal as the pandemic still thrives. Social distancing and masks does help contain the virus. Aside from that, enjoying with family can help ease the tension.
