If you’ve ever dreamed of stepping into a real-life Pirates of the Caribbean bar that looks like something straight out of the ride or films, you will soon have your chance to do just that at Walt Disney World.

That’s right, Disney has announced a Pirates of the Caribbean-themed lounge is coming to Adventureland in Disney’s Magic Kingdom and it sounds absolutely incredible!
(UPDATE) Disney has just released the name for the new Pirates lounge as well as the story and details about it. It will be called The Beak and Barrel Tavern and it will open at the Magic Kingdom in late 2025. Keep reading below for more info…
In this post, we are going to share with you everything we know so far about the new Pirates of the Caribbean Lounge bar including all the details about the opening date, menu, atmosphere, reservations, and hours of operation.
The original announcement for the tavern themed to Pirates of the Caribbean was announced at the 2023 Destination D23 event in Orlando where they dropped the first details about it.

Then, at the “Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase” during the D23 Expo at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, Disney confirmed plans and provided an update for the Pirates tavern and, shiver me timbers, we couldn’t be more excited about it.
And once it opens, and we have a chance to try it out, we will do a full tour and review of all the food and drinks available. We have a strong feeling it’s going to end up pretty high on our list of the best Bars in Disney World when it’s done.

What we know so far is that a new Beak and Barrel Tavern is coming to Adventureland in Disney’s Magic Kingdom and it will extend the story of Pirates of the Caribbean.
They dropped the first concept art for the lounge and it gives us a look at what the new lounge may look like. From what we can see, it looks like a typical Pirates tavern from the 1800s. There are kegs of beer on the wall, as well as round tables and barrels to sit on.
Meet Merry and Rummy
We also found out that The Beak and Barrel Tavern was established by the legendary pirate rumrunner, Captain Meridian “Merry” Goldwyn, and her talkative first mate, Rummy. You may remember him as the Barker Bird who used to greet guests at the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction, and he was featured at the end of the ride too.

As Merry’s trusted companion and first mate, Rummy serves as the tavern’s quartermaster keeping an eye on the place from his roost high atop the bar. Although retired from seafaring life, Rummy is a dutiful crewman to his beloved Merry, ensuring everything is ship-shape, sharing tales of piracy and leading the bar in a rousing toast or two.
This lively pirate pub will soon welcome swashbucklers, scoundrels, bandits and buccaneers of all ages from every corner of the seven seas.
Disney describes it as:” a rambunctious watering hole will offer a welcoming haven for all pirate-kind, big and small, and everyone in between. Here, bandits and buccaneers-to-be from every corner of the seven seas are welcome to join together and raise a toast to the pirate life! In the newly released artwork, X marks the spot for a sea-worthy selection of grogs and grub inside this tavern location coming to Magic Kingdom Park.”
The Mess

The largest and central space at The Beak and Barrel was once the mess hall for Spanish soldiers and is now known appropriately as “The Mess.” Long tables span the room, allowing for pirates to gather ‘round and tell their own tales, while an imposing anchor covered in candles and dripping wax hangs high above.
A large bar anchors one side of the room, cobbled together from salvaged portions of a cursed shipwreck. At its center, the skull-shaped stern holds an impressive collection of grogs and brew. Guests may also spot the Enchanted Rum Bottle, which was gifted to Merry by the enchantress Tia Dalma and seemingly serves as the source of the tavern’s specialty brews, or Rummy hobbling along the bar’s ledge, greeting the patrons and keeping a close eye on the crew while Merry is away.
Captain’s Quarters
Inside the Captains’ Quarters, visiting pirates can enjoy a taste of the finer life, which was once the living quarters of the Spanish Comandante. However, the fine artwork and drapery hasn’t escaped slashing blades or burn marks over the years by rambunctious pirates, and in some places, faded spots on the wall are all that remains of now plundered portraits.
Above the fireplace are mounted five miniature ships in glass bottles, rumored to represent pirates from every corner of the world banding together to defeat tyranny. Keep a weathered eye out, as these mysterious bottles have been known to come alive and engage in a fearsome battle.
Entertainment

As if we weren’t already excited enough about The Beak and Barrel Tavern opening, we have started to find out some of the entertainment that will be available when it does.
We have learned about the tavern’s setting, characters, and themed spaces, but Disney has also stated guests will experience: “Tortuga world through sing-alongs, storytelling, and enchanting surprises.”
That sounds a lot to me like The Beak and Barrel Tavern will feature live entertainment, perhaps even live performances and character-led moments throughout the dining experience. We’ll have to wait and see just how immersive this ends up being, but it certainly sounds promising.
Even though we don’t have all of the details yet, it’s clear that this will be one of the most immersive dining experiences in Disney World and a must-do for Pirates fans.
Honestly, I don’t know what took Disney this long to come up with an idea like this, it’s going to be a cash cow. If Imagineers are smart it will be a Pirates version of Oga’s Cantina in Galaxy’s Edge, which to this day is still one of the hardest-to-get advance dining reservations in Disney World.
Where Will the Pirates Lounge Be Located?

We know that the new Pirates of the Caribbean tavern will be located in Adventureland in Disney’s Magic Kingdom, and now we also have an exact location, inside the former Pirates League makeover experience space.
This makes sense and we knew it had to be nearby the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction, and this is a perfect location, right when you get off the ride.
The other option was Tortuga Tavern which I thought could have been a compelling spot since it is a good size and it’s almost always closed anyway (it only opens when Magic Kingdom is at its busiest). Plus it’s right across the walkway from the attraction.
I never thought they were going to build a completely new structure for the lounge since there are already two valid spots nearby to put it in, and it will cost a lot less to dress up an existing space than build one from the ground up.
Menu (Food and Drinks)

At this time Disney hasn’t released much info or given any hints about what type of food and drinks will be served here. One thing they have said is that “The Beak and Barrel will serve a la carte American fare, themed drinks for adults 21+, and snacks suitable for guests of all ages.”
This is a lounge or bar, so you can expect a wide variety of drinks (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic). You can for sure expect a variety of beer, wine, and Pirates-themed cocktails that will no doubt be a blast to try.
And in most Disney lounges, there is also a nice variety of small plates that you can either eat yourself or share with others. Think things like nachos, flatbreads, cheese boards, pretzels, dips, etc. I don’t think there will be a full menu, because no matter which location they choose, there will likely not be a full kitchen nearby.
The nice thing is that getting an alcoholic drink at Disney’s Magic Kingdom is no longer an issue and this will give guests another solid choice in the park.
The only thing is you can’t walk around with alcohol, so don’t think you are going to come in here, grab a drink to go as you head in line for the Pirates attraction. You’ll have to consume any alcohol inside the lounge before leaving.
There is no doubt though that this is going to land high on our list of the Best Places to Get Beer and Alcohol at the Magic Kingdom and we can’t wait to try it!
Time Limit

According to the Disney World website, visits to The Beak and Barrel Tavern will be limited to 45 minutes each. Having a set time limit means that guests will not be able to linger there for extended periods of time for as long as they like, but will have to exit once their time is up.
This is not surprising at all as we expect this to be the most popular lounge in all of Walt Disney World once it opens, and since the location is quite small, it makes sense that they want as many guests as possible to experience it every day.
This is also not the first time Disney has done this with a new lounge. if you remember back to 2019 when Oga’s Cantina opened, it also enforced a 45 minute time limit per visit, which is still in place today.
Reservations
Disney hasn’t yet released the details for making reservations at The Beak and Barrel Tavern, but one thing that we do know is that they will be strongly recommended, if not required.
If Disney parks history has taught us anything it’s that these type of themed bars and lounges are extremely popular and can be very difficult to get into. For example, places like Oga’s Cantina in Galaxy’s Edge or the Space 220 Lounge sell out of there reservations immediately when they are released to the public.
There is no doubt in my mind that The Beak and Barrel Tavern will be just as popular as those locations, if not more so. That means when planning your visit, this needs to be a high-priority reservation and you need to make book it the second it is available to you (which still may not be quick enough).
I hope that as with the Space 220 Lounge, there will be a stand-by queue that you can walk up to on the morning of your visit. This gives guests who were not able to make a reservation online the ability to wait in the walk-in queue until a table is available.
When is the Pirates of the Caribbean Lounge Opening?

So all of this sounds amazing, but when can we expect The Beak and Barrel Tavern to open at Disney’s Magic Kingdom? The answer to that unfortunately, is, I don’t have an exact opening date at this time. However, Disney has confirmed that it will open sometime in Late 2025.
The Pirates tavern was originally announced out of left field and typically a project like this would take at least 2 years to complete from the start, but that is if they were constructing a new building to house it.
We also now know for sure that it’s going in the former Pirates League but it will take a while to renovate those spaces into a proper pirates lounge. And since we know it’s opening in late 2025, this sticks to the 2-year timeline from original announcement to completion.
As soon as Disney makes an official announcement about the opening date we will let you know.
FAQs
Will Alcohol Be Served at The Beak and Barrel Tavern?
Though Disney hasn’t commented on the drinks at this time, the probability of them serving alcohol is 100%. So expect to find some awesome pirate-themed cocktails soon.
Will There Be Food Served at the Pirates of the Caribbean Lounge?
I wouldn’t expect entrees or anything, but the new Pirates lounge will probably serve small plates and snacks that go well with drinks.
Will The Beak and Barrel Tavern Be Restricted to Guests 21 and Older?
Absolutely not. Just like Oga’s Cantina, guests under the age of 21 will still be allowed to visit the Pirates Lounge.
Will Reservations Be Required?
Disney hasn’t yet commented on the reservation system, but we can be almost 100% sure that reservations will be required. This has the potential to be one of the most popular bars/lounges in Walt Disney World, right up there with Trader Sam’s and Oga’s Cantina.
If that is the case, this will be one of the hardest places to get into and you will likely need reservations to do that. They may take walk-ups too, but we’ll have to wait and see.

My name is Ziggy and I love Disney, everything Disney! I grew up on Disney and it has and continues to be a huge part of my life. I started young when my parents took me to Disney World when I was 18 months old. Little did they know that would be the first of an uncountable number of trips we would take. I have so many amazing memories going to Disney with my family and friends and it has been interwoven into my DNA.
