Citrus Swirl Now Gone, Replaced by Orange Swirl in Disney’s Magic Kingdom

We have bad news today.  One of our absolute favorite Disney snacks, the Citrus Swirl is now gone in Disney’s Magic Kingdom.  Disney has switched out the Citrus Swirl for what they are calling the Orange Swirl over at the Sunshine Tree Terrace in Adventureland.  The recipe has completely changed from the original and the Orange Swirl is a mix of Orange and Vanilla Soft Serve Ice Cream, instead of the more tart Citrus flavor, made from frozen orange juice.

This makes the new Orange Swirl is much sweeter than the original Citrus Swirl, which some now doubt will like, but other purists might not take so kindly to.  It’s also much more orange too.  The full reason for the change is not known yet, but it’s interesting to note that if you order just the orange without the vanilla ice cream, it is vegan friendly and gluten free, just like the Dole Whip at Aloha Isle.  So anyone having those specific dietary needs doesn’t have to worry anymore, and will probably be in favor of the news.

Here is a shot of it from the Disney Food Blog:

Sorry to tell you this but Disney has a way of making some of our favorite snacks disappear, let’s hope the new version is still excellent.

The Citrus Swirl is a classic Disney snack that originally appeared in the 1970’s and then disappeared until 2012 when it made its return to the Sunshine Tree Terrace.  We really loved it, not quite as much as the Dole Whip, but it was always a must-try on any visit to Walt Disney World for us.  We particularly loved the Citrus Swirl Float, so I’m eager to also try the new Orange Swirl Float.

I’m excited to here from anyone who has tried the new Orange Swirl to get your thoughts on the change.
