UPDATE 11/8/17: Reported on a couple weeks ago, we can now confirm Splash Mountain is closing again for another refurbishment in 2018. Even though Disney is currently finishing up a Splash Mountain refurbishment that started back in August , it seems that another refurbishment is right behind. The second Splash Mountain refurbishment will take place from January 8th till February 1st, 2018.
A couple weeks ago it was rumored and not sure, but now Disney has started cancelling FastPass+ reservations for Splash Mountain during that time frame.
It’s unknown why exactly they are re-closing Splash Mountain, but obviously it’s for something they are not able to fix now. Splash Mountain has been repainted and the scaffolding is down around it so obviously they are almost done with the current refurb and need more time. Here’s a pic from Yert3 on the WDWMagic Forums of the current state:
Disney has to have Splash Mountain ready for the busy holiday season which starts before Thanksgiving and goes through New Years Day. Once January rolls around they will have more time to fix whatever’s the matter with low crowds. Apparently this info was given to Disney travel agents.
Again, this should be only treated as a rumor since Disney itself has not confirmed anything yet, but plan your trips wisely.
