RUMOR: Permits for Main Street USA Theater Filed?

Permits for Main Street USA Theater mapWhile waiting for the construction at the Magic Kingdom to begin, Disney has potentially filed Permits for the Main Street USA Theater. Disney recently filed permits for a major construction project at the Magic Kingdom which just might fit the bill of the Main Street Theater we heard about ta D23 Expo back in July.

The permit name is: “MK-1 Enabling Package” and has a date range from August 31st, 2107 – December 31st, 2019.  That’s more than a 2 year window for the project which means it’s something big, not just s little refurb.  It’s also possible that the name “MK-1” or “park 1” refer to the parking area highlighted in red where the theater is likely going.  You can see the road leading to the theater highlighted in blue which is labeled “Monorail Way” in the permits.

The construction company listed on the permit is PCL Construction Services, who has worked on various long-term projects already around both Disney and Universal, again strengthening the idea this permit is for the Theater.  Of course it could possibly refer to the TRON Coaster project also going into the Magic Kingdom, but the land doesn’t match up to where TRON is going.  We still don’t know any exact timelines for either project, but if this is really the Theater permit then we should be seeing the TRON ones soon too as things should start rolling soon to get things ready for the 50th Anniversary of WDW in 2021.

Disney hasn’t said anything about it yet, but this is for sure part of a big project at the Magic Kingdom and it will be fun keeping track of it all!

This would match up with suspicions from a few weeks ago that the theater would go in behind the east side of Main Street, with its main entrance on the existing new overflow pathway that exists back there — which I guess would receive upgrades since it would become a permanently open pathway. I love this location because it means that nothing would have to be removed from Main Street in order for the theater to happen!

I wholeheartedly agree with you my friend! I would hate to lose something off Main Street, but in this scenario it doesn't look like we would. Perfect spot imo!
