Play Disney Parks Mobile App Coming to Disneyland and Walt Disney World June 30th

Play Disney Parks Mobile App Coming June 30th

Back in April we found out that the all-new Play Disney Parks mobile app is coming to Disneyland and Walt Disney World which will let guests explore the Disney parks in a whole new way, interacting with the environments around them.  Now Disney has announced that the Play Disney Parks Mobile App is coming to Disneyland and Walt Disney World June 30th!

Play Disney Parks Mobile App is free to download and starting today you can pre-order it in the App Store and Google Play (thought the iPhone version will include some addition features) so you can be one of the first ones to download it.

Using the Play Disney Parks Mobile App guests will be able to play interactive games while waiting in some of the attraction queues wth their friends and family.  Some of the games include:

  • “Playset Party” at Toy Story Mania! in Disney California Adventure park and Disney’s Hollywood Studios
  • “Off to Neverland” at Peter Pan’s Flight at Disneyland park and Magic Kingdom
  • “Rocket Race” at Space Mountain at Disneyland park and Magic Kingdom
  • “Andy’s Boardgame Blast!” at the new Slinky Dog Dash coaster at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

This certainly opens up a whole new world of opportunities and should really enhance the user experience.  They way people are always attached to their phones already, it could really keep them in sync with what is happening around them.  I’m very intrigued.

Here is a video explaining the Play Disney Parks App more:

This is just the first step in Disney’s development of more interactive queues and the beginning of a complete change in the way that guests wait in them.  It makes total sense seeing that guests have to wait sometimes 3-4 hours or more for attractions like Flight of Passage for example, and having something to do while waiting will certainly help guests to enjoy their time waiting much more.  It’s no coincidence it’s launching on June 30th, the same day Toy Story Land opens.

This technology is only the beginning as it’s going to be worked into future attractions like the Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance ride and Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run attraction coming to Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge in 2019, the Guardians of the Galaxy coaster, Tron etc.

In fact Disney has made the Play Disney Parks app a huge part of Galaxy’s Edge with lots of interactive elements that will keep you busy for hours and hours.

Using this technology and playing the games in queue is rumored to have an effect on the attraction itself.  For example, if guests complete the game they could be rewarded with things like being able to skip ahead in line.  If done right it’s going to really change the guest experience.

Guests will also be able to earn, collect and share uniquely themed achievements, rewarded for playing games, answering trivia, completing challenges and experiencing select attractions across Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort, as well as learning Disney trivia.

Music will also be a part of the Play Disney Parks app as guests will be able to listen to official Disney playlists from different park land, attractions and characters taken from the Disney parks, all done through Apple Music.

I think this is going to revolutionize the way guests wait in line for attractions and keep them entertained in a whole new way!  Keep checking back for more updates on the Play Disney Parks app for more info as this technology continues to develop!
