First Look: Guardians of the Galaxy Roller Coaster Ride Vehicle Revealed

Today at the IAAPA Attractions Expo 2018, Disney Head of Parks and Resorts Bob Chapek gave a first look at the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind Roller Coaster ride vehicle coming to Epcot.  It’s a revolutionary ride vehicle which will allow each car to be pointed in a specific direction so that Disney Imagineers will be able to tell a fully immersive story.  In fact they are calling it a “storytelling coaster.” and something they are saying that guests have never experienced before!

Here’s a look at the concept art for the ride vehicle:

This is essentially the same ride vehicle as we showed you months back when the images leaked, but now at least we have a more advanced version with the outside shell of the ride vehicle being designed too.  We also went deep into the details of the Guardians roller coaster ride vehicle looking at a new patent released by Disney about a month back.  It’s an interesting read as it explains the capabilities of such a ride system.

“On most coasters, the vehicles point straight ahead throughout the ride,” Bob explained. “But on this attraction, each individual cab will be programmed to direct your eye to the story happening around you.  That means instead of whizzing by the action, you’ll be fully immersed in the story from the minute you launch.”

I really love the look of it, but am more so interested in all the possibilities it will have for the storytelling aspect on the Guardians roller coaster.

Check out our latest Construction Update for the Guardians of the Galaxy roller coster from November 2018 and see the walls rising up around the Gravity building.

Guardians of the Galaxy Roller Coaster in Epcot is opening in 2021 in time for Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary.
