Anyone who loves waffles is going to love the Belgium marketplace at the Food and Wine Festival! The classic Belgian Waffles with berry compote and with chocolate ganache are back a better than ever! But are they still as good as last year??
Let’s find out in my Belgium Review: 2019 Epcot Food and Wine Festival….
Belgium Marketplace:
Belgium is once again back in its normal spot between Brazil and Morocco and it’s always one of the most colorful booths at Food and Wine…
Let’s get some food…
Belgium Menu:
For the most part Belgium never changes from year to year. That’s true again as not too much difference here with the same 3 waffles back once again. The Beer-braised Beef served with Smoked Gouda Mashed Potatoes, Belgian Waffle with Warm Chocolate Ganache and Belgian Waffle with Berry Compote all make returns.
One of the beers from the flight did change however and is now a Delirium Red Fruit Beer. I would like to see some more variety every now and then in Belgium, but this year doesn’t seem that way.
Food:
- Beer-braised Beef served with Smoked Gouda Mashed Potatoes ($5.50)
- Golden Malted® Belgian Waffle with Warm Chocolate Ganache and Whipped Cream (V) (KA) ($4.25)
- Golden Malted® Belgian Waffle with Berry Compote and Whipped Cream (V) (KA) ($4.25)
Beverages:
- Leffe Blonde Belgian Pale ($4.50)
- St. Bernardus Witbier ($4.50)
- Delirium Red Fruit Beer ($4.50)
- Stella Artois Hard Cider ($4.50)
- Chilled Coffee featuring Godiva Chocolate Liqueur ($11.00)
- Beer Flight also available ($9.75)
Menu Review:
Beer-braised Beef and Smoked Gouda Mashed Potatoes ($5.50):
This was a really well done dish. Everything from the beef to the gouda mashed potatoes were excellent. The portion size was pretty good, and the meat was very tender and fell right apart. The gravy it was in was very hearty and you could really taste that it was cooked in beer!
Gouda is a milk cheese and there was just a hint of it in the potatoes which were very smooth. Overall excellent choice and a must-try here!
Belgian Waffle with Warm Chocolate Ganache ($4.25):
So even though I love the beef, everyone comes to Belgium marketplace for the waffles. At least 90 percent of people walked out of here with the Belgian Waffle with warm chocolate ganache. Yeah you might be able to get a better deal at a place like Sleepy Hollow, but this is still pretty darn good. Thought the chocolate was very rich and delicious, just could have used a bit more on top.
Belgian Waffle with Berry Compote ($4.25):
I’m not a huge chocolate buy as much as I am a fruit guy, so the Belgian Waffle with berries is always my favorite here. I don’t know if the server just went light on it this time, but much like the chocolate, I remember getting more berry compote here too last year. Let’s hope it was just this serving cause this is one of my favorite desserts!
Beer Flight ($9.75):
If you don’t go to Belgium for the waffles, then you definitely do for the beer, and this beer flight was incredible! We loved all three of them, one more than the next.
The Delirium Red Fruit Beer was nice and refreshing (I’m always down for a fruity beer), however I think my favorite was the St. Bernardus Witbier, which was very smooth going down and full of flavor. It had mild hops and a spiciness that jumped to the back of your tongue. Awesome beer flight and recommended with anything you get!
I was so excited to drink them I forgot a picture!! I guess I’ll have to get it again to show you guys… 😉
Booth Summary and Grade:
Overall the Belgium Marketplace was steady eddy for us. The menu never changes but it always is really good. I still love the waffles and they remain some of my favorite sweet treats from Food and Wine. The real star here though is the beef, so tender and soaks nicely into the potatoes.
And unlike some other marketplaces around World Showcase, it didn’t lower it portion size from last year, so that right there is a plus in my book!
If you have to get just one thing:

My name is Ziggy and I love Disney, everything Disney! I grew up on Disney and it has and continues to be a huge part of my life. I started young when my parents took me to Disney World when I was 18 months old. Little did they know that would be the first of an uncountable number of trips we would take. I have so many amazing memories going to Disney with my family and friends and it has been interwoven into my DNA.
