It’s only been a few weeks since we last took a look at the construction progress going on at Hollywood Studios for both Star Wars Land and Toy Story Land. Last time we saw that the track was being laid for Toy Story Land’s Slinky Dog Roller Coaster, and while that’s moving along nicely, we now have a look at the Star Wars Land AT-AT construction progress too! These beautiful photos were provided by @bioreconstruct on Twitter.
Before we start you can also check out our Guide to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge for a detailed look at everything that’s coming including the attractions, dining, planning and touring strategies.
Let’s look at an overall shot of Hollywood Studios. Here as indicated we see: 1. Star Wars land, 2. Toy Story land, 3. area near Muppets Courtyard, 4. a new Cast Wardrobe site that’s just being started and 5. the new Parking Expansion:
Star Wars Land is significantly bigger in size at 14 acres than Toy Story Land or any other section of Hollywood Studios, and you can really see the size and scope of the project!
Here’s another great shot of Star Wars Land on the right and Toy Story Land on the left:
Even with the wall up in Toy Story Land we can see that Slinky Dog Dash has made tremendous progress over the last few weeks with the whole track assembled on the left and then extended out to the middle and starting to take shape on the right side too:
Another shot of Slinky Dog Dash:
In the middle of the shot you can also see the Alien Swirling Saucers coming to form. This is a ride themed around the Claw from Toy Story and similar to Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree in Disney’s California Adventure:
So Toy Story Land is looking good, and with the speed things are going there (strange for Disney construction) it seems likely to expect a 2018 Opening Date for Toy Story Land. We’ll find out for sure at the D23 Expo next month!
Now for a Star Wars Land update here’s an overhead shot:
We can see new Cement Walls being installed over by the entrance to Star Wars Land where the last remaining facades from the Streets of New York are:
Here we see a Star Wars Land Show Building at the bottom of the photo and as indicated by the yellow arrow we have materials being used for the Star Wars Land AT-AT construction:
These AT-AT Walkers will be a part of the show building on the left, which will house the First Order Battle Attraction:
This shot gives you a better look and you can see the form of the AT-AT’s:
In case you’re wondering what the AT-AT’s will look like when they are upright, here’s a shot from the identical AT-AT’s being constructed in Disneyland Resort in Anaheim:
They look amazing!! I can’t wait to check this attraction out!!
Front shot of the show building:
Concrete forms are being constructed for the attraction show building:
I don’t know if I’m more excited for the Rise of the Resistance ride or the Millennium Falcon ride! Both look incredible!
Since there are two Star Wars Lands (one in Hollywood Studios and one in Disneyland Park) some have wondered if there will be different opening dates for the two identical lands. While it’s seemed that way due to the fact that the Star Wars Land in Disneyland is a good 3-4 months ahead of Hollywood Studios one, it seems like Hollywood Studios is catching up a bit and may just close the gap by the expected opening dates in 2019. All of this again is still to be seen, and surely we’ll find out more next month!
Your Thoughts:
I want to know what you think about the Star Wars Land AT-AT construction progress. Do you think both Star Wars Lands will have the same opening date? What about Toy Story Land? Do you think it will open in 2018? Let us know in the comments section below!

My name is Ziggy and I love Disney, everything Disney! I grew up on Disney and it has and continues to be a huge part of my life. I started young when my parents took me to Disney World when I was 18 months old. Little did they know that would be the first of an uncountable number of trips we would take. I have so many amazing memories going to Disney with my family and friends and it has been interwoven into my DNA.
