As we reported some months now, a New Signature Dining Steakhouse is coming to the Japan Pavilion in Epcot’s World Showcase. This will be a Table Service Restaurant and will offer guests here a unique dining experience while at the same time taking in the natural beauty of Japan.
This Signature Dining Steakhouse will be inspired by nature and takumi, which means artisan in Japanese. Expect a mix of natural beauty and Japanese craftsmanship to be present throughout the restaurant. Theming will be a big part of the restaurant and it will have distinctly themed rooms, including: Lobby, Wa Room, Water Room, Washi Room, Wood Room, Stone Room and Earth Room.
This is where the approximate location of the steakhouse will be as the new restaurant is rumored to be taking over some of the retail space in the Mitsukoshi store and some backstage areas:
There is no word yet on the menu, but since Japan is famous for its high-end steaks, expect this to be a pretty pricy meal once it opens. I’m thinking lots of Wagyu Beef and high-end sake!
After we found out more about the big Epcot Expansion through the 27 Epcot Construction Permits that were filed this week, this Signature Dining Steakhouse is probably included in that group. Still I think it’s a somewhat strange choice to add another restaurant in World Showcase, when it’s clearly in more need of attractions or another whole country pavilion to be added. We already know about the France pavilion expansion underway with the Ratatouille attraction being built, and I guess we’ll have to wait will we have a better picture at the entire expansion.
In any case I’m always up to try new food and this new Japanese Steakhouse has the potential to be the best restaurant in Epcot once finished, so I say: “Bring it on!”
Disney hasn’t given any opening date yet for the project, so we’ll have to stay tuned until construction starts. (Update 5/16/19) – Disney has named this new Japanese steakhouse Takumi-Tei.

My name is Ziggy and I love Disney, everything Disney! I grew up on Disney and it has and continues to be a huge part of my life. I started young when my parents took me to Disney World when I was 18 months old. Little did they know that would be the first of an uncountable number of trips we would take. I have so many amazing memories going to Disney with my family and friends and it has been interwoven into my DNA.
