Production Starts on Live-Action Version of Disney’s Mulan

Production Starts on Live-Action Version of Disney's MulanAlmost one year ago we found out that Liu Yifei had been cast as Mulan in Disney’s live-action remake of the 1998 animated film.  Today we learned that production has officially started on the live-action Mulan and we got our first look at Liu Yifei as the title character.

Liu Yifei looks pretty serious wielding her sword and I feel bad for anyone she goes against in the film.  The cast of of the film also includes: Donnie Yen, Jet Lee and Jason Scott Lee.

If you aren’t familiar with the original animated version of Mulan, it’s about the story of a young girl in China who pretends to be a man in order to fight invaders from the north and becomes one of the greatest warriors in Chinese history.  In fact the story is so popular that it’s even told today to children in China.

Filming of Mulan is taking place in New Zealand and China.  You have to figure about 9-12 months for filming and then an equal time for editing it.  That falls in line with the announced March 27, 2020 opening in theaters.

Mulan is just one in a long line of live-action remakes currently in production including: The Lion King, Dumbo and Aladdin.
