Since Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway was announced at the D23 Expo July, things have been mostly quiet about this new attraction, except for a few signs going up at Hollywood Studios, and some concept art in the Walt Disney Presents attraction. We saw the end of The Great Movie Ride back in August, and since then nothing. Today being Mickey’s birthday it seems some news is leaking out about this project in Hollywood Studios, and Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway opening date could be revealed.
Rumor has it that Walt Disney Imagineering will finish Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway between April and May 2019. They are saying a May 1st opening date because that’s the anniversary of Hollywood Studios, so it would make sense to throw a big anniversary bash with this new attraction. There’s also been heavy speculation for sometime that Hollywood Studios will be getting a name change, in fact Disney sent out questionnaires a few months ago with a choice of possible names on a list to choose from. With Toy Story Land opening in 2018, Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway around Spring 2019 and then Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge later in 2019, that would be a good time for the change imo.
Less than 2 years to totally re-haul the Chinese Theater to house Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, is actually quite fast for Disney, and they obviously see the need to get Hollywood Studios up and running again soon.
Again these are just rumors, nothing concrete from Disney yet, so take them with a grain of salt. Supposedly more info about Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway is coming out later today as well, so stay tuned!
