Well I’m a wild turn of events that finished just as crazily as it started, Disney has decided to rehire James Gunn to direct the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 film from Marvel Studios.
Gunn was gored from Disney last year after some inappropriate comments he had made years ago were brought to public light. He was all set to start production of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 this Winter when the news of his firing came.
Why the change in heart by Disney? Apparently Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn met with Gunn on multiple occasions to discuss the situation and was touched by Gunn’s sincere apologies and the way he’s handled the situation since the firing.
The only problem is that Gunn has been hired by rival comic book company DC to direct the Suicide Squad 2 project so he’ll have to wait till he’s finished with that before starting on Guardians of the Galaxy 3.
We’re super happy about this news as there was no way Disney was going to be able to find a suitable director to take over the beloved Guardians characters and bring them to life in the same way Gunn can.
We’ll keep you updated on this story including when you can expect Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3.
Your Thoughts:
I want to know what you think about James Gunn coming back to Disney to direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3…
- Was this a good move by Disney to bring him back?
- Should he stay on beyond Guardians of the Galaxy?

My name is Ziggy and I love Disney, everything Disney! I grew up on Disney and it has and continues to be a huge part of my life. I started young when my parents took me to Disney World when I was 18 months old. Little did they know that would be the first of an uncountable number of trips we would take. I have so many amazing memories going to Disney with my family and friends and it has been interwoven into my DNA.
