Beauty and the Beast had a very impressive and even record setting first weekend at the Box Office, pulling in $174 million in Domestic sales and $357 Million World Wide. What makes it so impressive is that it’s having the success of a Summer Blockbuster but in March. It’s the biggest March opening ever at the box office, and also subsequently the largest Spring opening ever. It came in at the #7 position for all-time opening weekends just ahead of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 and just behind Iron Man 3. Ironically Disney holds out of the top 7 positions.
It also sets the record for IMAX being the #1 global and domestic openings for a PG-rated film in the format, earning an estimated $21 Million on 1,026 IMAX screens worldwide and also the biggest opening ever for a PG-rated film period.
There were also reports of already some people going to see it multiple times which means it will likely hold up well in the Box Office with many people making repeated visits to see it. This is a very good sign for Beauty and the Beast to maybe even approach the magic $1 Billion mark at some point in the future.
It looks like Disney has come out of the gates strong again in 2017 and there is no slowing down the film mega-giant.

My name is Ziggy and I love Disney, everything Disney! I grew up on Disney and it has and continues to be a huge part of my life. I started young when my parents took me to Disney World when I was 18 months old. Little did they know that would be the first of an uncountable number of trips we would take. I have so many amazing memories going to Disney with my family and friends and it has been interwoven into my DNA.
