VIDEO: Baby Hippo Born in Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Some great news was shared on the Disney Parks Blog, that is a Baby Hippo was born in Disney’s Animal Kingdom late Saturday night.  This is such an exceptional occasion because it’s the first baby hippo born in the park in 13 years!  Just look at how stinking cute it is!!

The mom’s name is Tuma, and her calf will be under observation while the two of them continue to bond.  Of course it’s dangerous to approach a calf with the mother near, so the exact weight and gender are not known at this time.  However if you want to get a look at the baby hippo and its mother, just take a ride out on the Kilimanjaro Safaris and you can see them together with the whole Nile hippopotamus bloat!

Check out this video Disney has put together of the new baby hippo:

This is just the latest new member of the Animal Kingdom family, over the summer some new tiger cubs were born, and you can now go and see Anala and Jeda on the Maharajah Jungle Trek!

Disney takes pride in helping in the survival of its animals, and participates in the Species Survival Plan for these animals.  The Nile hippo is extinct in its native territory so each birth that occurs in the park is another step in helping to preserve these amazing creatures.  Check out the new baby hippo the next time you’re in Disney’s Animal Kingdom!
