(UPDATE 8/11/19:) After being run at reduced capacity throughout the Spring and Summer, the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror in Disney’s Hollywood Studios is back running at full capacity.
Besides bringing the Tower of Terror back to full capacity, the randomized drop sequence has also returned after only using the single drop profile since the refurbishment started.
The attraction was in need of maintenance and because of the lower capacity, wait times have been higher than normal in the last months. That should change with it operating at full capacity again which is good news for park-goers in the coming weeks.
Hollywood Studios is already low in attractions and now with Galaxy’s Edge opening up and possible record crowds coming at the end of the month, it’s going to be crucial that the rest of the park’s attractions are running at full speed and can hold as many guests as possible.
We’re happy to have the Tower of Terror fully back up and running smooth. Make sure to drop in on your next visit to Hollywood Studios.
(Original Story) One of Walt Disney World’s most popular attractions is going to be at reduced capacity for most of 2019 as the Tower of Terror in Disney’s Hollywood Studios is getting a refurbishment.
According to wdwmagic.com the Tower of Terror refurbishment is going to be done in phases so the attraction will stay open during the refurbishment. Workers will work on one side of the attraction and then move to the other side, allowing it never to completely shut down.
Good thing because I don’t think Hollywood Studios can take losing another attraction for any amount of time.
Even though the Tower of Terror will remain open, there will be fewer FastPass+ reservations available so waits are going to definitely be higher.
This is a smart move on Disney’s part to get this type of refurbishment done BEFORE Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge opens up later in 2019. Hollywood Studios is going to be a zoo when that happens and they will definitely need the Tower of Terror’s capacity for guests waiting to get into Galaxy’s Edge. Therefore it’s better to get this over with now than have a problem in the Fall.
The Tower of Terror Refurbishment will start during the Spring and continue through the Summer of 2019. Stay tuned more more info as soon as we have it, but here’s hoping some of the now missing effects are restored to normal!

My name is Ziggy and I love Disney, everything Disney! I grew up on Disney and it has and continues to be a huge part of my life. I started young when my parents took me to Disney World when I was 18 months old. Little did they know that would be the first of an uncountable number of trips we would take. I have so many amazing memories going to Disney with my family and friends and it has been interwoven into my DNA.
