Remember that new hotel coming to the Swan and Dolphin area we’ve been reported on now for over a year? You can officially get excited about it now as Disney has confirmed a third Swan and Dolphin hotel coming to Walt Disney World.
According to the Orlando Business Journal, a new 14-story, 349-room hotel tower is going in next to the Swan and Dolphin Resort on the current site of the tennis courts. This is going to be a boutique hotel aimed at a higher clientele, specifically ones coming into Orlando for nearby conventions. Of the 349 rooms, 198 will be traditional, and there will be 151 high-tech suites aimed to please those guests. Expect a 75-seat restaurant (rooftop maybe) and a 50 seat lounge, plus all the normal amenities you’d expect from a high-end hotel. There will also be 21,000 square feet of meeting space, one of which will be located on the top floor offering fantastic views of Epcot and Hollywood Studios.
Tishman and Metlife Investment Management who owns the Swan and Dolphin Resort said today that they are looking forward to “expanding the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort and to marking the next chapter in our decades-long relationship with Disney. This expansion is an exciting continuation of our commitment to delivering a best-in-class experience for all resort guests, and is consistent with our recent enhancements of the Dolphin lobbies and resort guestrooms.”
This is somewhat of a departure from most Walt Disney World projects, and fills a need of the high-end market. There are very few on Walt Disney World property that can compete with the Four Seasons which area attractive to corporate executives coming in for meetings.
Meanwhile there are also plans to update the rest of the Swan and Dolphin Resort including the lobby at the Swan.
You should start to see construction moving forward on the third Swan and Dolphin hotel soon, and it’s expected to be open in 2020, ahead of the 50th Anniversary of Walt Disney World.
