The latest permits for the TRON Lightcycle Power Run Coaster showed construction beginning on February 6, 2108 and it looks like that indeed is the case. With some pics from BlogMickey, we were able to get a look at the TRON Lightcycle Run Coaster site clearing started in the last few days.
Driving past the future site of the TRON Coaster on World Drive, you can get a good look at the land clearing going on, including trees being cut down. Below you can see the land dedicated for the TRON Coaster site:
A total of 8 acres of trees will have to be cut down during the construction according to the permits and things should move very fast in the next couple months. Crews already have cleared out most of the land needed in Epcot for the new Guardians of the Galaxy Coaster, which is an even bigger space. It will be located right next to Space Mountain, and forever change the Tomorrowland Skyline.
Driving by you see more photos of the construction site from World Drive:
My only question is how will they deal with theming from World Drive. I mean when driving past the Walt Disney World Parks, traditionally you haven’t been able to see into the parks from the road, or if you can you can’t get a good view of most of the attractions (Tower of Terror being the main exception). But the TRON Lightcycle Power Run Coaster will be literally on top of the road and clearly visible from the road, which I think ruins a big part of the effect. I mean if I want this kind of atmosphere I’ll go to the Six Flags back home.
It will be interesting to see what kind of theming they put in there on the site, and how much they actually try to somewhat conceal the attraction.
TRON Lightcycyle Power Run Coaster will be open in time for Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary in 2021.
Your Thoughts:

My name is Ziggy and I love Disney, everything Disney! I grew up on Disney and it has and continues to be a huge part of my life. I started young when my parents took me to Disney World when I was 18 months old. Little did they know that would be the first of an uncountable number of trips we would take. I have so many amazing memories going to Disney with my family and friends and it has been interwoven into my DNA.
