Let’s be honest, the roads throughout Walt Disney World property are in a constant state of construction and will continue that way for a while. However a new shortcut overpass leading to the Magic Kingdom resorts is now open and will offer guests a way to save time from being stuck in traffic.
This northbound overpass road off World Drive will allow guests to circumvent the Magic Kingdom plaza entrance who aren’t actually going to the Magic Kingdom park, and who instead are just trying to get to their resort. If trying to get to Disney’s Contemporary, Polynesian or Grand Floridian resorts, you can take this new overpass which spilts off from the left of World Drive. It’s also good for people trying to get to Disney University and Center Drive.
If you are going to Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground, then exit onto Vista Boulevard instead. And if you are going to the Magic Kingdom, use the Magic Kingdom auto plaza as normal.
A new southbound overpass is also being worked on at the moment and is expected to open soon. This whole area will be much easier to travel by car and bus and should decreased the travel time by a good amount. This is just one of the many road projects currently being worked on in preparation of Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary when the resort will need all the traffic help it can get. This is a good start.
Your Thoughts:
I want to know what you think about the new shortcut overpass road at the Magic Kingdom…
- Does this help you get to your WDW destination faster?
- What other road improvements around property would you like to see?

My name is Ziggy and I love Disney, everything Disney! I grew up on Disney and it has and continues to be a huge part of my life. I started young when my parents took me to Disney World when I was 18 months old. Little did they know that would be the first of an uncountable number of trips we would take. I have so many amazing memories going to Disney with my family and friends and it has been interwoven into my DNA.
