One of the most unexpected announcements at the 2017 D23 Expo was a New Theater coming to Disney’s Magic Kingdom. Disney hasn’t been very forthcoming though with details on this new entertainment venue since then, but we now have some more details. In September we reported that permits for the Main Street Theater construction were submitted. Now according to Orlando Park News, the New Magic Kingdom Theater construction is beginning this week on Saturday October 28th.
In the photo above you will see the location of the which is just behind Tony’s Town Square restaurant in what is now a backstage Cast Member parking lot. On a recent Keys to the Kingdom tour, our guide also confirmed this as the location of the new theater. There is going to be a filming event this week, and once the filming is done, construction on the Main Street Theater will start.
It’s going to be a 1920’s style Theater, modeled after the famous Willis Theater in Kansas City. Still no word on an opening date, though it will certainly be before 2021, nor on what kind of entertainment will be coming to the theater. It could be an existing Disney IP, or maybe even by then it will be something completely new.

My name is Ziggy and I love Disney, everything Disney! I grew up on Disney and it has and continues to be a huge part of my life. I started young when my parents took me to Disney World when I was 18 months old. Little did they know that would be the first of an uncountable number of trips we would take. I have so many amazing memories going to Disney with my family and friends and it has been interwoven into my DNA.
