Less than 1 month after reopening from a long closure, Hong Kong Disneyland is closing once again on July 15 due to COVID-19 concerns in the area.
Cases of the coronavirus have once again been rising in Hong Kong, and the decision was made to shut down the park once again.
Hong Kong Disneyland was the second Disney park worldwide (after Shanghai) to reopen after they all were shut down for months. Obviously having to shut down again isn’t the greatest situation, but with public safety a major concern, it is the decision for now.
The decision to close Hong Hong Disneyland was made as required by the government and health authorities in prevention with efforts taking place across Hong Kong. Due to Disney’s willingness to reopen Walt Disney World despite an enormous number of new cases in Florida, we had to imagine it was the local Hong Kong authorities that want the park to shut down again.
While Hong Kong Disneyland Park will be shut down, the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort hotels will remain open for the time being, with limited services available.
“The Standard Day Ticket is valid for six months from the purchase date. If needed, Hong Kong Disneyland Resort will assist in the refund for guests who have purchased tickets for admission to Hong Kong Disneyland park or have booked a resort hotel.”
Though it’s never good to see one of the Disney Parks close, we had to figure that the the health crisis still going strong throughout the world, there was always the chance of the parks reopening and then having to close again. In fact, we’ve been wondering if Disney World will eventually be forced to close again at some point if the situation doesn’t improve in Florida.
Case are increasing in Japan, and it wouldn’t surprise us to eventually see Tokyo Disneyland have to close at some point either, especially due to how adverse to risk the Oriental Land Co. is.
No word yet on how long Hong Kong Disneyland will be closed for as no reopening dates have been announced.
Right now this is a developing story so we’ll have more details for you soon, stay tuned!
My name is Ziggy and I love Disney, everything Disney! I grew up on Disney and it has and continues to be a huge part of my life. I started young when my parents took me to Disney World when I was 18 months old. Little did they know that would be the first of an uncountable number of trips we would take. I have so many amazing memories going to Disney with my family and friends and it has been interwoven into my DNA.
