Some exciting news out of Hong Kong Disneyland Tuesday was the Disney Explorers Lodge Opening which celebrated the brand new 750-room hotel.
President and Managing Director of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Bill Ernest, along with Sam Lau Executive Vice President and Managing Director of Hong Kong Disneyland were on hand as well as leaders from the Hong Kong Government to witness the grand opening.
The Disney Explorers Lodge tells the story of a grand era of exploration and four explorers who built this lodge based on their adventures around the world, decorating it with their own artifacts from their journeys in far away lands like the African Savannah, a South American Jungle, a Polynesian Island Paradise and an area showing the beauty of Asia.
As with most every Disney attraction or resort around the world, the story behind the Disney Explorers Lodge is truly detailed and plays a part in the theming of the resort. There are 4 wings, each with an outdoor garden with a matching theme named after an iconic Disney or Pixar character:
- Oceania’s Little Squirt Garden (“Finding Nemo“)
- Asia’s Hathi Jr. Garden (“The Jungle Book“)
- Africa’s Rafiki Garden (“The Lion King“)
- South America’s Kevin Garden (“Up“)
It also is sure to bring more to life Disney’s secret society S.E.A, and you can expect to find some clues around the resort of their presence there!
This is the beginning of a huge $1.4 Billion expansion taking place at Hong Kong Disneyland right now which was just approved 2 weeks ago, and marks the first new resort on property since the opening more than a decade ago. Already this year we saw the new Iron Man Experience open to rave reviews from guests. Not only that but a whole Marvel themed land, a Frozen themed land, a Moana themed show area and a complete Castle and Hub transformation are all going to be part of the expansion taking place from now till 2023.

My name is Ziggy and I love Disney, everything Disney! I grew up on Disney and it has and continues to be a huge part of my life. I started young when my parents took me to Disney World when I was 18 months old. Little did they know that would be the first of an uncountable number of trips we would take. I have so many amazing memories going to Disney with my family and friends and it has been interwoven into my DNA.
