Belgium Review: 2016 Epcot Food and Wine Festival
One of my favorite spots every year at Food and Wine is Belgium. Why you ask? Duh…Waffles! We all know and love those Mickey-shaped ones we find in every Disney World Buffet Breakfast, so how do these and all the other treats compare this year in Belgium? Let’s find out…

Your standard Food and Wine kiosk. This one has a nice touch of a “glass” window on the top that looks like it belongs in a train station or something. Cool effect!

Menu review:
Although there is one savory option on the Menu here, let’s face it..Belgium is and will always be about the sweets, and in that I mean the waffles!
The first option I tried was the Belgian Waffle with Warm Chocolate Ganache and Whipped Cream. It isn’t huge but it’s a good size for the cost at $3.75. In fact both waffles cost the same and are a nice value when you consider most sweet options in Disney (chocolates, candy, etc) cost about $5.00 each. So to get something this fresh for a relatively low cost is nice. It had a nice texture, soft but not undercooked, and not crunchy either which sometimes you find around property. The chocolate sauce was nice, very rich and smooth. Really it’s hard to screw this up.
Second I had the Belgian Waffle with Berry Compote and Whipped Cream(again $3.75) and this one for me was even better. I couldn’t stop craving that berry compote even hours after I had already finished. It was so good!
No really it was soooo amazing, the combo of the blackberries, blueberries and raspberries was to die for. And the thickness and sweetness of the compote was right on. I could eat 10 of these without even breaking a sweat..ok I was already sweating because it was like 100 degrees out but you get the point!
Lastly was the Beer-braised Beef served with Smoked Gouda Mashed Potatoes. I thought the flavor of the meat was right on, you could definitely taste the beer which was great but not over-powering. And the Gouda mashed potatoes were one of the best at Food and Wine this year. My only complaint would be that there were only like 2 little tiny pieces of meat in there. I don’t know if it’s always like that or just this time but they should give you a little more imo.
I’m not a huge beer guy usually but Belgium is also known for it’s beer and there a few nice options to turn to. The Leffe is what I would suggest. Nice golden color, not too heavy, refeshing in the hot Florida sun and the perfect thing to wash down those Gouda mashed potatoes with!
Booth Summary and Grade:
Belgium is always a great spot to hit up. It’s in a great location right next to Brazil, France and Morocco. The waffles are amazing, especially the Waffle with Berry Compote and Whipped Cream, you will go back multiple times for it, I promise. The beers are great too if you are in the mood. The only thing I can say is I wish there was another savory item besides the Beer braised beef. Overall it’s great though!
If you have to get just one thing: Belgian Waffle with Berry Compote and Whipped Cream
Grade: 8

My name is Ziggy and I love Disney, everything Disney! I grew up on Disney and it has and continues to be a huge part of my life. I started young when my parents took me to Disney World when I was 18 months old. Little did they know that would be the first of an uncountable number of trips we would take. I have so many amazing memories going to Disney with my family and friends and it has been interwoven into my DNA.
