2018 is truly the year of super heroes as first Black Panther set the pace becoming the biggest super hero film ever at the domestic box office, and Avengers: Infinity War having grossed more than $2 Billion worldwide. Yet the year of super heroes continues as Ant-Man and the Wasp debut this weekend #1 at the Box Office, while Incredibles 2 breaks a record for animated films.
First Ant-Man and the Wasp has done very well at the domestic box office earring $76 Million, plus another $85 Million overseas for an opening weekend total of $161 Million. This 20th film from the MCU starring Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly has already beat earnings for the original Ant-Man which made $57 million in 2016 and topping out at $519 million worldwide. Things are going to get even better for Ant-Man and the Wasp as it’s still not open in about 50% of the international markets. I really enjoyed the film. While not as good or epic as Avengers: Infinity War, it was very entertaining and a bit more light-hearted which is what the MCU needed after Thanos destroyed half the universe.
As for Incredibles 2, it’s been even more impressive, becoming the first animated film to hit the $500 Million mark ever in North America. It broke the previous record set by Finding Dory back in 2016 at $486 million, and in it’s 4th weekend is still at the #2 position bringing in an estimated $36 Million. I guess people hadn’t forgotten the Incredibles franchise after its 14 year wait between films and they’re showing just how much they love the Parr family. It also should reflect well in the theme parks as Disneyland has just opened up the Incredicoaster on Pixar Pier in Disney California Adventure where you can have more adventures with the Incredibles and you can also see them in the Paint the Night parade on their new float!
Next up for Disney later this Summer is Christopher Robin, a live action version of the title character (Ewan McGregor) who gets help finding himself from Winnie the Pooh and his friends from the Hundred Acre Wood. That’s another on our list of the top films we’re waiting for in 2018 and we’re eager to see if it lives up to the hype as the other Disney films so fr this year have.

My name is Ziggy and I love Disney, everything Disney! I grew up on Disney and it has and continues to be a huge part of my life. I started young when my parents took me to Disney World when I was 18 months old. Little did they know that would be the first of an uncountable number of trips we would take. I have so many amazing memories going to Disney with my family and friends and it has been interwoven into my DNA.

I saw the movie yesterday and enjoyed it very much. Definitely a worthy sequel of the original. The after credits scene sets up Avengers 4 with the impact to Scott and team after the events of Infinity War. Definitely might see this again while in theaters. The $85 million oversees is impressive for international debut while Disney hedged it's bets and delayed the opening due to not wanting to compete with the World Cup. Overall a nice addition to the MCU.
