This is a Toy Story Land Construction Update. We are now on a strict countdown with only 56 days left till the Toy Story Land opening on June 30th, so to keep you up with everything going on, we wanted to send you the latest Toy Story Land Construction update for May 2018 so you can see all the new things since our last update. We’re going to look at the Midway Mania queue under construction as well as some theming changes to the outside of the building as well as props and landscaping being installed at Woody’s Lunch Box, Slinky Dog Dash and Alien Swirling Saucers.
In the last weeks we’ve seen the Woody figure installed at the land’s entrance and a whole bunch of new info from the Good Morning America special on ABC, showing the Toy Story Land merchandise, and a behind the scenes look at the attractions.
Thanks as always to @biorecontruct on Twitter, we have awesome aerial pictures of Toy Story Land and the 3 attractions inside. There is still a lot of work to do in the next weeks so let’s take a look at how it’s going:
Here we have a wide aerial shot of Toy Story Land and Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge which really gives us the size and scope of the projects:
As we saw last week, the Woody figure has been installed at the entrance to Toy Story Land and you can see him in this shot heading towards Slinky Dog Dash:
One of the things we’re most looking forward to is the new Toy Story Midway Mania queue. Over the last couple weeks it looks like a lot of progress is being made on the external of the project and a red roof has been installed:
This view gives us another angle of the queue:
On the external of the Toy Story Midway Mania building you can see them putting up the “wooden fence” along the top. We are in Andy’s backyard of course!
Around the same building for Midway Mania, notice all the trees and other landscaping being installed to keep service and backstage areas hidden from view of the public. When you look up at that wall, eventually you’ll only see the wooden fence:
On the far side of the building though, the side that borders with Galaxy’s Edge, it seems that there’s been a change of plans for that wall. Instead of the wooden fence decoration on the top, the whole side has been painted green:
That could either be to cut costs, or since it’s facing Galaxy’s Edge the Imagineers might have decided that it will blend better through the trees as a green wall instead of the wood:
Over at Woody’s Lunch Box you will notice progress on the outside of the building with work done to the overhang where the food counter will be. You can also see that props are starting to fill the area surrounding the building including a toy plane and other block sets:
Over at Alien Swirling Saucers the external of the building has come a long way in the last weeks, and the ride queue too:
The roof is almost complete:
You can see how it will look from the Toy Story Land model:
The area to the right of the building in this shot is where the Alien Swirling Saucers queue will start. Some theming has started to be added, but it’s almost empty:
Here we can see a beautiful aerial showing most of Slinky Dog Dash coaster:
The Rex theming on the wall to the right of the station is in place. Also it looks like most of the landscaping around the track for Slinky Dog is finished and looking pretty green.
Here’s a look at the service bay for Slinky Dog Dash. You can see that there are 3 Slinky Dog trains:
Lots of work is still being done to the station, including theming inside and out. Notice at the bottom the Wheezy animatronic figure which was just installed and now up and running at the bottom arrow:
Here’s another shot above Slinky Dog Dash. The left arrow shows an extra piece of track. Middle arrows indicate lights that will light-up when the trains pass through the rings. Top right arrow is the maintenance entrance for Alien Swirling Saucers:
That concludes our Toy Story Land construction update for May. We are at almost 50 days till the Toy Story Land opening, so everyone is really under the gun to get it ready for June 30th, and as you can see there is still a ton of work to be done. It seems Disney is really hurrying to finish and it’s not like last year with Pandora The World of Avatar when there were a lot of soft openings before the grand opening. It looks like things will come down almost to the wire here.

My name is Ziggy and I love Disney, everything Disney! I grew up on Disney and it has and continues to be a huge part of my life. I started young when my parents took me to Disney World when I was 18 months old. Little did they know that would be the first of an uncountable number of trips we would take. I have so many amazing memories going to Disney with my family and friends and it has been interwoven into my DNA.
