Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Reopening from Refurbishment in 2022

The Disney World water parks closed in 2020 and Typhoon Lagoon has remained closed ever since. Now it has just been announced that Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon is reopening from refurbishment starting January 2, 2022.

Typhoon Lagoon Reopening Refurbishment

The water parks at Walt Disney World close often for refurbishment, but never have they been closed for this long. Typhoon Lagoon closed in March 2020 which is almost 2 years from the reopening date in January.

Guests can expect all their favorite slides and attractions to be open such as Humunga Kowabunga, Miss Adventure Falls, Castaway Creek, and Crush ‘n’ Gusher.

The largest outdoor wave pool in America is reopening, and the pool offers surf programs where you can learn with a private surf lesson.

Disney has also made some special additions for the Disney World 50th Anniversary including new Dole Whip flavors at the Snack Shack next to Typhoon Tilly’s. DOLE Whip flavors including mango, pineapple, lime, and raspberry to build your own refreshing treat.

Adult guests can even choose to complement their DOLE Whips by adding tequila, coconut rum or dark rum. And make sure to also check out new Moana-inspired DOLE Whip cones, also available at Snack Shack.

More new snacks include Walt’s Chili Nachos, which offer a special twist on one of Walt Disney’s favorite meals, and the EARidescent Ice Dream Cone, a birthday cake-flavored soft-serve treat. These are just a couple of the delicious 50th anniversary-themed treats you will find.

Typhoon Lagoon Castaway Creek

Though Typhoon Lagoon is reopening, the other water park at Walt Disney World Blizzard Beach is closing for refurbishment in January, and no reopening date has been given at this time.

No big changes are going to be added to Typhoon Lagoon, so don’t expect a new attraction or anything like that. The reason it closed for so long was that Disney World just doesn’t have enough guests to support 2 water parks at this time. Most of the refurbishment that took place was for regular maintenance, they just took their time to reopen.
