Tangierine Cafe Closed in EPCOT’s Morocco Pavilion

The effects of low attendance in Walt Disney World after reopening are starting to be felt as the Tangierine Cafe in EPCOT’s Morocco Pavilion has now temporarily closed.

It’s terrible to hear the Tangierine Cafe is closed as it’s one of our favorite quick service restaurants in EPCOT, even if it is only a temporary closure. Tangierine Cafe reopened with EPCOT on July 15, but because of extremely low park attendance, it is being shut down after its last day of operation on Saturday, August 1.

In fact, if we have a look on The Walt Disney World website, we can see that the popular quick service location is listed as “Temporarily Unavailable.”

Tangierine Cafe Epcot closed

Tangierine Cafe is not run by Disney but by a third-party vendor like many of the EPCOT restaurants and so it is even more reliant on foot traffic through World Showcase and less able to sustain a long drought of business.

Our guess is that the closure will only be a temporary one and that Tangierine Cafe will reopen when more people start coming to the parks.

With Tangierine Cafe closing, that leaves only 5 quick service restaurants in EPCOT that are operating at this time:

  • Katsura Grill
  • La Cantina de San Angel
  • Les Halles Boulangerie-Patisserie
  • Regal Eagle Smokehouse: Craft Drafts & Barbecue
  • Sunshine Seasons

Spice Rod Table is now the only remaining restaurant open in the Morocco pavilion as Restaurant Marrakesh is also currently closed. The Morocco pavilion received a loan for between $1-2 million back in April, so it was clear for a while that they were in trouble.

They obviously thought there would be more guests visiting by now and the decision had to be a tough one.

When will it reopen?

That’s anyone’s guess at this point. With the financial state that the pavilion is in, plus the low park attendance, it looks like it might be a while before we get another Shawarma Chicken and Lamb Platter.

There is also the possibility that it is forced to stay closed and potentially come under new management. It is too soon to know if things will get to that point though.

Please reopen Tangerine Cafe! It’s definitely one of our favorites and offers tasty healthy options versus other deep fried, fatty options.
