There is now confirmation that the Guardians of the Galaxy attraction is going to be a roller coaster. Yesterday at Epcot’s 35th Anniversary celebration, Epcot VP Melissa Valiquette confirmed to members of the media that the attraction replacing the Universe of Energy will be a coaster.
Just yesterday on the Welcome Home Podcast we were talking about this very subject, and Guardians being a coaster has always been the thinking since D23 Expo, but it’s nice to know for sure. We’ve also known that the former Universe of Energy will be used as a queue area for the attraction, and that the big construction project going on behind the existing structure will contain the ride itself, which reportedly will be 10-stories tall.
Of course now knowing this is going to upset the Epcot faithful, the purists who remember the park in it’s original form from the 1980’s. Epcot has always separated itself from the other parks, and has never had a roller coaster before. It will be interesting to see what modifications Disney makes to the ride to make it different form the usual, but this new is sure to upset a bunch of people. How do you feel about it?

My name is Ziggy and I love Disney, everything Disney! I grew up on Disney and it has and continues to be a huge part of my life. I started young when my parents took me to Disney World when I was 18 months old. Little did they know that would be the first of an uncountable number of trips we would take. I have so many amazing memories going to Disney with my family and friends and it has been interwoven into my DNA.
